From what I've seen of everyone who's played here, this is a relatively advanced group of roleplayers. Because you're all mature people with the ability to compose coherent thoughts, I thought I'd cook up some guidelines for posting, so we're all on the same page.
1. Every post should be thoroughly checked and proofread for spelling errors and grammar mistakes before actually being posted. Also, it helps to read the post out loud to see if it makes sense sometimes. If there are spelling or grammar mistakes, I'll probably edit them, so please don't be offended, it's just part of my Storyteller OCD disease.
2. EVERY post should consist of at least a paragraph. O.k. so on this, I plan to ease up, not everyone can write copious amounts of words, and some because they are posting from work/ phones etc, they don't have the opportunity to make long posts. As long as people refrain from single word replies and extremely short sentences, I will not harp. But, some people may avoid Rp with those that leave such short replies. That is their prerogative. Please be respectful. If you wish to make longer posts some things to think about adding are: facial changes, body movement (i.e he paced back and forth as he talked.) note a change in voice, these are just some ideas to help.
3. Be courteous, if you wish to join a scene already in progress, please PM the players and ask if it is o.k.. Sometimes scenes are being set up for a reason and a new person joining in can ruin a lot of behind the scenes work.
4. Try not to tell what your character is thinking. Be more creative than that - does it show up on his/her face, does she suppress her thoughts to the point of showing no emotion at all? Giving thoughts is giving away a higher level discipline for free, so don't do it. And when writing in third party, this is generally not an issue. People posting inner thoughts/monologues have a change of those thought being interpreted or figured by chance roll of the dice.
5. God-Moding or controlling other people's character either in thought or action is not permitted. You do not have control over anyone's characters but your own, so don't try to. This includes PCs as well as Admin-controlled NPCs. In the case of any other NPCs, please ask the permission of the player who originated the NPC before controlling their actions. Also, just because your character is an Elder doesn't give them automatic dominion over others PCs. Please work together to come to an acceptable compromise when using powers that control the minds or bodies of others. In addition if a player has granted permission for a character to say pick them up, grab them etc, this needs to be documented in both players personal forums.
6. Third party writing is a must. Do not use first person. Please and thank you.
7. Posting order. many of the players have full time jobs, and can only get on once or twice a day, please do not shotgun them and leave them 4 or more post in the past. ( Unless they indicated in the OCC area/via PM that is is o.k. to skip them. (please include staff in the PM so we are aware as well.) as a general rule of politeness, give each p[layer in a scene 24 hours to reply in before skipping them. This is of course, suspended for weekends, as some players can't be on as often do to familial obligations, real life obligations etc.
8. If you are going to be gone for any length of time, please let staff and other players know in the proper thread in the OOC area.
Finally, understand that this is a role-playing game. We want you to feel welcome and have fun here, but we also want other people to feel the same and in order for that to happen we all have to be on the same page. Be respectful and leave the drama out.
Hopefully everyone understands and respects this and will adhere to it.
